An Encounter

"We will start the beauty chat session momentarily," a Brunette sale representative at the SpaceNK booth announced to the group of eager beauty addicts who gathered at the MeetUp session, ready to meet the two YouTubers they have been following and watching for the past years. Lily Pebbles and Anna stepped out behind the back room and entered the shopping area of the meeting place, Lily was wearing a black jump suit from Zara with a see-through tights, with speckle of poky dots, under the black top of the outfit; Anna, on the other hand, had a vanilla-colored white dress with ruffles at the end of the  three-quarter sleeves of the knee-length dress and she added a boyish and casual touch to the outfit by wearing a pair of green-grey ankle-length boots.  Each of the two girls had on foundation and their eye make-up brings out the natural beauty of their oval and big eyes that many Asian women would do anything to get. Lily and Anna are British make-up gurus from London and they are known for their make-up and fashion videos on YouTube.

As I stood waiting to have my turn for the pictures, the butterfly in my stomach revealed itself and I found myself struggling to find words to say to the two girls. After waiting for five to ten minutes watching girls after girls taking pictures of the two ladies, I decided to take the matter in my own hand and jumped in the circle and asked the two ladies to have a picture of me. Politely and with a smile on my face, I sandwiched between Lily and Anna and got a picture of them. I told them that I love Lily's black dress and commented how they look more beautiful in person and they accepted by comments with a genuine smile on their face; Lily was smiling at me as if I was the most important person in the world and I just wanted to hug her and ask her if I could be her friend on Facebook or have her hang out with me if I were ever visiting London.

The best way to understand anything is to learn by doing, actually experiencing it, and getting our hand dirty. Meeting the two girls taught me the importance of being friendly and well-rounded and more importantly it showed how powerful the internet world is and how a click away can bring a group of strangers together.  I can spend all day reading about the two make-up gurus and their influence on YouTube but actually standing there and seeing the effect of the internet world on the viewers was astounding and mind-blowing at the same time. The internet connects people from all over the world and brings them to a point in time and everyone is related one way or another, no matter what their gender, religion, and socioeconomic is. Sometimes, in life, we have to experience in order to understand something and when we get it, when we finally see the purpose of a particular interest and action, we are changed forever and we are never the same person again. We become more open-minded and even better, we become a better version of ourselves with the mindset that is open to anything the world gives us.
